since you’re here, it only seems appropriate that I introduce myself. So hi, I'm elise. I’m a 20something serial hobbyist with a nostalgia complex who can't help but invest a lot of time and money in a new project nearly every week. I paint, I bead, I embroider, and I hit the crochet highway time and again. so congrats, you’ve made it to my tiny corner of the internet. I hope you’ll stay a while :)

stop trying to make niche happen

when creating an online presence or a small business, one of the first things people encourage you to figure out is your niche. when ideating about sharing my art with the world, the thought of choosing my niche seemed like a daunting task. because what happens if you can't pick just one? part of what makes me, me is being multi-passionate and being pigeon-holed into on thing doesn't really pique my interest nor keep me inspired. to quote Sharpay Evans, "I need something inspiring to help me get along" and in my case, this means being able to explore different art forms with the freedom to use different mediums.

started from the bottom... now we're here?

while i know it's important to have consistency for brand building, picking just one thing felt very anti-me. so how do you build a brand as someone who is multi-passionate? I guess the answer is I'm still figuring it out. I try things on for size and see how they fit (figuratively speaking). I create art and I create content for that art (the unfortunate nature of having to be on social media to share and sell my work) and I check in with myself along the way.

creating the art is usually the easy part, the part of it that i have a more complicated relationship with is creating content for my art. over the years, through trial and error, I’ve been able to evolve the way I show up on social media for my artwork. I pay close attention to the kind of content that feels on brand, is rewarding to share, and fills up my proverbial bucket. a bonus is being able to put my near 30,000 item camera roll to good use.

trying to be content with content

just as I pay attention to the kind of content that is rewarding to make, I also pay attention to the aspects of content creation that feel draining, so I can better figure out how to patch those holes and set myself up for success. while google is free and researching best practices is fairly easy, actually showing up and delivering is far more challenging.

at this stage, I’ve accepted that I simply don't have the bandwidth to show up a million times a day on social media. the more I try to show up online in the most optimized way possible, the less energy I have to spend creating the actual art that I'm trying to share.

the TLDR:

my focus is on creating art and showing up online in a way that feels authentic to me, instead of it being some soul-sucking venture. and while I don't have all the answers yet, and my approach doesn't necessarily have a 100% success rate, I’m committed to evolving my online brand and small art business while maintaining my sanity along the way.

if you’ve made it this far, I want to personally thank you for being here and taking the time out of your day to check out my site. want to stay tuned in for future updates? subscribe to my newsletter :)
